World Ocean Conference 2009
Indonesia is proudly hosting the
World Ocean Conference 2009 to build commitment
for sustainable management of marine resources.
Manado, a pleasant city, will be in the International spotlight during the upcoming World Ocean Conference (WOC) and Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) Summit to be held May 11 – 15, 2009.
International agreements and conventions on oceans are important as sound references for deriving national policies by countries. However, in many aspects it requires serious political will of world leaders to drive and implement such agreements.
Problems such as the impact of climate change on oceans and degradation of land and marine resources have seriously affected global development. Efforts to reverse this trend are urgently required.
Furthermore, it is anticipated that the Coral Triangle Initiative Action Plan will also be adopted. Throughout the week, delegates will also attend a number of side events, including: the Ocean Science, Technology and Policy Symposium; and the Ocean Science, Technology and Industry Exhibition. On Global Ocean Policy Day, 13 May, participants will be presented with the results of the Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands Working Groups and the 4th Global Conference on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands, held 7-11 April 2008, in Hanoi, Viet Nam.
Save the Ocean. Save the Planet.
