The largest advantage shown by the development of this green roof has been the data collected about its temperatures. There is an occurrence called the urban heat island which is where urban centers have average temperatures of 6 to 10 °F higher than surrounding areas due to the high concentration of dark rooftops and other surface areas.

Thanks for stopping by. I very much enjoyed your article on rooftop gardens. I have been interested in rooftop gardens (first seen in NYC) from a purely aesthetic standpoint. I started thinking about them from an ecological standpoint when I read an article about how Atlanta's city government was considering building more rooftop gardens to counteract its large expanses of concrete -- more than any other city in the USA -- and which has contributed to it being one of the hottest!

Keep up the good work! -- Virginia
